To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate superior abilities and accomplishments in their field, be regarded as exceptional in not just the Australian community but any country where their area is practised, and have a history of sustained success that is unlikely to diminish in the near future.

Procedures for the
National Innovation Visa Programme
The National Innovation Visa (NIV) is an invitation-only programme, which means that you must first receive an invitation from the Australian Department of Home Affairs before you can apply for the visa. Without this invitation, you are unable to proceed with the application process.
The application process for the NIV involves several key steps. To begin, you must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) that highlights your achievements and qualifications. This EOI can be submitted irrespective of whether you are inside or outside of Australia. However, it's important to note that you must not be in immigration clearance at the time of your application or when the visa is granted. Once submitted, your EOI will remain valid for two years. During this period, you may receive an invitation to apply for the visa at any point.
If the Department of Home Affairs extends an invitation to you, it will include a unique reference number and identifier, which you will need to use when applying for the visa. It is crucial that you apply within 60 days of receiving the invitation to avoid offer expiration.
The actual visa application is submitted online. Along with your application, you will need to provide the necessary supporting documents and pay the application fee, which starts at AUD 4,840. Once your application is processed, the Department of Home Affairs will inform you of the decision in writing.
