Application Process for the National Innovation visa

The National Innovation visa application process involves several structured steps.

Before Applying

A prerequisite to the application process is securing a nominator - an eligible individual or organisation with a national reputation in the field - who can submit a nomination through the approved form. This form must be attached to the visa application, with the nominator substantiating the exceptional achievements and suitability of the applicant for the visa.

Applicants must also lodge an expression of interest, as this is an invitation only process. Invitations to apply for the National Innovation visa are based on the expression of interest, and if chosen, applicants must adhere to a strict 60-day timeframe to lodge the application. Applicants should be aware that submissions outside of this window or without an innovation will not be accepted.

Applying for the National Innovation visa

Once invited to apply, applicants must provide evidence of their internationally recognised talent. This evidence must reflect their prominence in their field and establish their position as a leading talent, such as outlining their formal qualifications or published work in leading journals. Applicants will also be required to provide documents that, for example, confirm their identity, their relationships, and their character. This may include copies of their identity documents, police clearance certificates, and any records related to dependents included in the application.

Once ready to be lodged, applications must be lodged online via ImmiAccount with all required supporting documentation. Applicants will also be required at this stage to pay the Visa Application Charge.

After Applying

After the application has been lodged with the Department of Home Affairs, the Department will notify applicants of a valid application. The Department may require applicants after this to undergo additional processes, such as health examinations or biometrics collections, or provide additional information.

Application Decision

Upon making a decision, the Department will communicate the outcome to the applicant in writing. Successful applicants will receive their permanent visa grant number, any attached visa conditions, and the start date of the visa. In the event of a refusal, reasons for the decision and information relating to any available avenues for review will be provided.
